</infobox> Torn Clothing is a minor Affliction that can be encountered in The Long Dark. Torn Clothing is the only Affliction that is indirectly linked to the player's overall wellbeing, affecting their Clothing rather than their body or mind.

Overview

Torn Clothing is an Affliction that is often paired with Bruising and Lacerations, and is mainly acquired through Falls and Struggles with hostile wildlife. When acquired, it results in an audible fabric tearing sound, followed by multiple pieces of the player's outermost layer of Clothing losing a percentage of its overall condition value. The same percentage is applied to every piece of affected clothing. The clothing affected depends on the affliction source.

Falls

Falling from a significant height will result in the player's outermost legs and feet clothing being torn from the weight of the impact. It is advised to practice Mountain Goating in order to avoid being injured while attempting to scale down mountain or hill sides with large drops.

Hostile Wildlife Encounters

Encounters with hostile predator Wildlife has a chance of having every piece of the player's outermost clothing being damaged during a Struggle, alongside other various injuries. Being attacked by Wolves almost always has a chance in the player's clothing being torn the longer a Struggle goes on. Timberwolves resort to bite-and-run tactics to wear down the player, but can also initiate a Struggle if the player stands still long enough. Bears will always damage the player's clothing when attacked. If a player knows that they cannot avoid a Bear struggle, it is advised to take off all clothing and take the attack head on to avoid it from being torn, then re-equip their clothing after the struggle.{{#invoke:Navbox|navbox}}
