</infobox> Hypothermia Risk is an Affliction in The Long Dark, caused by exposure to the cold.

Overview

In-game description
}}

If the player stays out in the freezing cold for too long, and their Clothing is not sufficiently warm enough to keep their Feels Like temperature above 0°, their Warmth Need will drop. Once Warmth hits zero and reaches "Freezing", the Hypothermia Risk will appear. Should a player continue to freeze in this state, they will gain the Hypothermia affliction after 2 hours.

Tips

  • The treatment for Hypothermia and Hypothermia Risk is keeping Warmth above freezing until the affliction heals. Should the player start freezing while recovering from Hypothermia, the recovery time will reset.
  • The time to recover from Hypothermia is based on the experience mode: 6 hours for Pilgrim, 12 for Voyageur, 18 for Stalker and 24 for Interloper. Remaining recovery time is shown on the Status menu.
  • Hot food or drinks and campfires can help stay above freezing, even when outdoors.
  • Freezing, even without Hypothermia, is by far the deadliest Need (Freezing: 20% Condition loss per hour (40% with Hypothermia), Thirst: 2% per hour, Hunger/Fatigue 1% per hour).
