For the cave in Desolation Point, check Cave (Desolation Point location). For a list of all caves on Great Bear Island, see here. Similar to many other regions on Great Bear Island, Ash Canyon features a large, explorable Cave System located in the far north of the map. It is near Long Falls and ends up in the mountains, with 2 paths that lead to either Wolf's Jaw Overlook or Miner's Folly. Like most other explorable caves, it's warm enough to keep even a poorly clothed character above freezing.

Overview

This cave has some similarities to the ice caves of the Hushed River Valley in that it contains a waterfall at the bottom entrance. Going through waterfalls will soak the player and completely drain the temperature bar, as well as extinguish any held light source (excluding the marine flare). Also, as with the ice caves, this location requires the use of a mountaineering rope (which always spawns pre-attached) to traverse from one entrance to the other. The cave may contain a Wolf Carcass, a Deer Carcass, and a frozen corpse in the room containing the rope, as well as coal scattered in different areas throughout. Another frozen corpse, a wolf carcass, or both can spawn on the second level overlooking the lower area by a blocked slope.

Unlike the ice caves, this cave has no natural sources of light. It is not very long, but a light source or two is needed to make it through, as navigation can otherwise be nearly impossible. While passing through the waterfall and surrounding puddle near the lower entrance, it is also advisable to unequip any clothing to prevent them from becoming soaked and subsequently freezing.

Possible wolf carcass & frozen corpse spawn on the second level
