Burdened is a unique Affliction in The Long Dark only encountered in Survival Mode when consuming certain Cooking Recipes. It was added in the Part 3 update to the Tales from the Far Territory.

Burdened is acquired from consuming certain recipes that effects a survivor's Encumbrance by temporarily lowering their maximum total carry weight by 3kg for 1 hour. This can be an especially dangerous Affliction to acquire when a survivor is already under the negative effects of low carrying capacity gained from low Fatigue.

The following foods, when consumed, grant the Burdened Affliction as a side effect:

The effect of this Affliction does not stack, and each application will not override the previous Affliction. Partially eating the previously mentioned foods only adds a partial amount of Burdened Recovery Time.

Trivia

A symbol similar for the Burdened Affliction icon appears in Episode 3: Crossroads Elegy whenever Astrid Greenwood is carrying a Crash Survivor.
