Hyperglycemia Risk is a unique Affliction in The Long Dark only encountered in Wintermute during the mission Fallen Star in Episode 3: Crossroads Elegy.

Overview

Hyperglycemia is a unique Affliction Risk that affects Dimitri, a Crash Survivor. Since he has Type-1 Diabetes and his body cannot produce insulin on its own, Astrid Greenwood is tasked with retrieving his Insulin in order to prolong his life, which has been left in his suitcase (Suitcase belonging to Dimitri S.) at the Crash Site. Astrid, after bringing the Insulin back to Thomson's Crossing, administers the hormone to Dimitri.

Due to gameplay reasons, Dimitri will never truly develop Hyperglycemia and die, no matter how much time passes.

Treatment

Simply administering Insulin to Dimitri cures the Affliction Risk.

Trivia

Though not seen in game, it can be inferred that Dimitri will likely begin suffering from Hyperglycemia Risk again once his current supply of Insulin runs out, as diabetics require doses daily to function normally (usually with meals.). Unless he can procure a large amount of low-carbohydrate foods (i.e foods that won't raise his blood glucose), or procure more Insulin despite the absence of most medical technology, he will unfortunately not survive the Quiet Apocalypse for very long.
