Well i got plat in the long dark, what means i survived 500 Days and never Touched a forge in that run. Currently im on Interloper day 25 and i wouldnt even say the hatched and knife is nessacary at all, if you just want to survive. You should be careful with words like "must", only because you cant do it, it doesn't mean its impossible.
