Misanthrope's Homestead is a two-story house on a small island in Coastal Highway.
Overview
Misanthrope's Homestead can be reached by traversing over the frozen ice. The house has ample loot including processed foods, clothing, and other useful supplies.
Old Man's Beard Lichen and Green Birch Sapling can be found on the island, and there may be a frozen corpse down hill from the house. Rabbits also spawn on the tiny island just to the west.
The island is often surrounded by wolves, although they rarely come up onto the island unless in pursuit of a player. A small cave is located on the side of the island facing the land. A bear may spawn near the cave, and Deer and cedar and Fir limbs can spawn on the island.
For players that have the Handheld Shortwave Radio, a Supply Cache can be found a short distance east of the house.
As of the Part 6 Broken Silence update, a Pier is now found behind the island containing a Trade Drop Box, which can be used to trade with the Trader.
Safehouse
Due to the island's proximity to Sutherland's Trade Drop Box, the two story house on the island has become a popular safehouse in the region. The house is sufficiently spacious to accommodate custom furniture and has excellent hunting, fishing, and beachcombing nearby. Furthermore, the radio in the Quonset Garage is a short walk away. While it does not have a built in workbench, one of the benches from the Quonset can easily be disassembled and rebuilt here. One of the few weaknesses is the lack of an indoor fireplace.
Trivia
Sutherland lived here before the First Flare, at which point he embarked onto his sailboat, never to set foot on Great Bear again. He will bring up that his father, his brother Wyatt, and he himself once lived in the home. Sutherland mentions that he has no desire to go back to his home and that the survivor can do with the property as they please.
