Switch to Portable Infobox
Let's talk about Portable Infoboxes. Do we need them and do we want to switch?
I haven't research what are the main downsides of portable are, but the advantage is that they are more friendly to mobile users.
I felt semi-annoyed by the messages to switch to portable infobox, so I made some additions to our CSS code to allow future infoboxes be the same style as current one. Here is the current Item Infobox template and here is Template:Infobox/Item/Draft|future draft template. There are some style tweaks needed to be done yet to CSS, probably some padding. My knowledge of CSS was zero before the help of internet for this case, don't hit hard :). Also, new infobox template will need additional modification and check to fit for our needs. I'll try to do needed changes next time I have time.
Perhaps, we can even switch to the original infobox, without /item, but it will require changes to pages where we'll need to change infobox/item to infobox.
Anyways, if somebody does know better about if we want to switch to portables or otherwise think it is a bad or good idea, report in with your comments.

- If the pros outweigh the cons then I think we should switch to portable infoboxes. About 50% of Wikia's traffic is from mobile devices so making this wiki more mobile friendly will almost certainly be in our best interest.

- I guess it might be better if we can use a single infobox across all pages that use an infobox. If we were to do that, we should be able to use a semi-automated editor (aka a bot) to semi-autonomously edit the pages for us. More on that later. --LêgêndFPŠ wall

- I've got today bigger and brighter reminder of this topic, so... Template:Infobox/Item/Draft is more or less ready, as well as style library in CSS. I will continue to research it unless somebody know how and what to do. Few questions:
- Which layout option do we want? Will we stay with the default one or do we want stacked layout? Just asking; in my opinion default is good enough.
- I saw something about portable quotes and I guess we'll need to change the current template if we want our quotes to be portable?
- What kind of parameters we would like to see in infoboxes? Possible new ones:
Horizontal grouping, can be used in different ways. I thought these can be implemented into food infoboxes, where no other info but weight and calories (see Infobox/Item/Draft for example). |Left = left cell for weight |Right = right cell for calories Some |Harvest tool |Harvest time |Craft tool |Cooking time etc. related to required tool and time. Horizontal grouping might be useful. Note that collapsible groups are also a choice.
- I also think that the default (table) layout is fine.
- If we are making infoboxes portable then we may as well make other templates, including Template:Quote, portable. Discussions about them should take place on their respective pages.
- I don't like the horizontal grouping.
I agree with those other parameters. I also think that energy density (cal/kg) should be added.
Changes to infoboxes would affect many pages. So yes, making and testing example(s) before having them go site-wide would be good. --LêgêndFPŠ wall
