Work Boots are possibly one of the best footwear items in the game. They offer a lighter weight option for hunting and traveling, and ALSO offer incredibly good material to repair cost benifits. On top of this, Work Boots have the lowest decay rate in the game for any footwear (0.040 % per day) which is better then deerskins 0.065 % per day. Work Boots have 2 KG weight which makes them appealing for hunting deer and unlike Leather Boots, they have wind protection bonuses. 

The only other items which rival Work Boots for longevity are:  Leather Boots, and Deerskin Boots.  Lether Boots simply do no require cloth to repair, and are very lightweight. Deerskin, again do not require cloth, but are very heavy and do require hides and upkeep to maintain which presents a different resource strain all-together.

I should mention: Insulated Boots are not effcient to repair or maintain. They have higher decay rates, very similar to Leather Boots, but require the same material costs as Work Boots. Insulated boots only gain 30 % condition when repaired vs Work boots which gain 50% condition from the same materials. This makes Insulated Boots a very poor choice for long playthroughs. I would advise using them up early game and never repairing them. Insulated boots are also heavier then Deerskin Boots, and Deerskin Boots outclass Insulated Boots in every way imaginable.
