This is ridiculous.  If you melt snow, you are also boiling water.  There is no reason the two should be separate actions.  Not to mention the fact that boiling water inexplicably makes the fire die even faster.  This is what happens when city kids who have never left mommy and daddy's house pretend that they are Jack London....
