I love survival game communities because they have such good ideas to suggest and often they get implemented. But every once in a while there comes along someone I just want to hate because they have ideas that aren't in the game and they get super pissy about it, as if their idea is the "one true survival method" and has no flaws and anyone who didn't think of it is stupid. This is one of those times.

Personally, I think the snow shelter in-game is just fine since whole point of having it is that you're able to use it to survive in extreme conditions. A Quinzee sounds like a good idea, but I have serious doubts about the durability during a heavy blizzard of some snow pounded together by a novice; I would not attempt that myself for fear of being buried alive... Maybe in the future the game will have a construction skill or something like that to allow you to do more advanced stuff, but as is I can't see it fitting in the setting.
