That tip about coffee really is the best advice if you're struggling.  I had decent luck finding coffee and barely ever needed to sleep.  Once you're good and tweaked out, you can afford to be a little more liberal with the sprint button, too. 

You can usually find tins of coffee within kitchens cabinets and sometimes in filing cabinets.  I actually found quite a lot filed away in Carter Dam.  You can sometimes strike caffeinated gold in the cargo containers on Timberwolf MT.  Make sure you saw open any along your route.
