Keep in mind, meat and fish stored in any container, indoors or outdoors, will despawn when it reaches 0% (RUINED) condition. If left in the snow, or on the ice, it will hit 0%, but NOT despawn, allowing you to cok it back up to 50% if it is raw, or eat it if cooked, and you have Lvl 5 Cooking Skill (no risk of food poisoning). I am not 100% sure, but I think canned fod will also despawn if left in a container until it reaches 0% condition.
