I know this is a super old thread, but in case this advice is still useful to someone: don't cook your meat immediately. Only cook it before you're ready to actually eat it. When you cook raw meat it adds +50% to the condition, even if the meat is at 0%! And 50% still qualifies as edible, my friends.
Also, if eating half rotten meat makes you uncomfortable, you can store meat outside to preserve it somewhat. That applies whether you drop it in the snow, or even if you stick it inside an outdoor container. For example, in Broken Railroad, I oftern store my meat in the lockers outside the maintenance shed or in the trunk of the car outside the hunting lodge.
