If you're having trouble with this one, I definitely recommend you use any coffee you find to stay awake all day and all night for the first day or two before the weather starts to turn. You can probably find some tins in the kitchen cabinets within the nearby houses.
Also, fish are a source of food and lantern fuel, if you're having trouble with that.
Beyond that, you just have to pray to RNGesus. I got nearly everything within the first couple of days, but after searching all of CH, I actually had to go all the way to the freaking Pleasant Valley Farmstead to get a hatchet of all things.
