I feel this weapon is underpowered for the time it takes to craft one yourself and the skill required to effectively use it. It only kills wolves with a head shot and rabbits? Those are the only ways to kill something with one arrow? Seems a bit unrewarding compared to the rifle, which is easy to use, easy to aim, and, in my experience, easier to get. Maybe its to appeal to some realistic fantasy that the rifle be a better tool for killing in every way, but I consider this a sorry excuse for all the problems it has.
