Guys, you need to keep in mind that the snow shelter requires cloth in order to not make it overpowered. Cloth is not something you usually carry around during expeditions and they are unrenewable (disconsidering beachcombing), therefore making it costly to make, as you will lose at least 3 cloth in process, which is not renewable. For those complaining that it requires cloth, understand that the whole point of The Long Dark is to make stuff unrenewable so you will likely die at some point, so it's indeed not that realistic, but it respects the game philosophy.
