I believe that calculation is (calories from crackers) / (weight of crackers + weight of water necessary to restore the hydration lost)
Max hydration is 0.6 litres, so the weight of water to restore 20% of that is 0.13 kg.
So (600)/(0.1 + 0.13) = 2571.4 cal/kg
That's slightly more than the 2400 cal/kg the article claims. Looks like they said 20% is .15 L not .13 L. I'll fix that.
