I think the devs mixed up black bears with dire bears, because these fucking things are as big as CARS and aren't spooked by loud noises.
Also give zero fucks about being shot in the face multiple times.
But in all seriousness, the black bears in this behave way closer to grizzly bears. Source: I grew up in a rural town where I had regular encounters with black bears and they never got this big or brave (except for sounds that are normalized for them, like dogs barking and such). You usually just raise your voice and tell them to get going and they trot off. My info on grizzlies is more based on what I've read and not real life encounters though.
