It just makes sense that you would be able to use other wood sources to make arrow shafts, or how it would make sense to be able to make stone headed or sharpened shaft arrows instead of metal headed arrows. Considering these resources are extremely limited (as from what I understand, birch saplings do NOT respawn) it irritates me how limited these crafting options are. In my current playthrough, I have yet to find a single birch sapling. This is probably bad luck, but you'd think it would make sense to, in an emergecy, to use any decent wood for arrows.
