New page

Man, I do love real life wolves and I'm sure so do Hinterland Games.

But boy did they make sure I'd hate the game's wolves' guts. I hate this vermin so bad.

I mean, I started an Interloper and Stalker game two weeks ago (have about 350h of game behind me), I ended up at Coastal Highway because it's the best place to me for long term survival once I've got the essentials. And this place (they all are anyway) is FILLED with wolves. FILLED ! Like, I literally CANNOT walk for more than ten seconds without hearing one barking nearby. I'm at about day twenty in my Stalker game and I already killed thirty wolves. THIRTY ! I must have about "75 wolves close encounter", whatever the hell that means. But they keep respawning every single motherfreaking day ! I took several screenshots with more than five wolves around me, near Quonset Garage and the Log Sort. Respectively observed eight of them at the Town Site and seven scattered on the lake near the Log Sort.

Is my game broken or are they freaking serious with their wolf spawns ? How are you supposed to survive in Interloper with such a threat with barely any mean to defend yourself ? You have no gun and there is no curing a green mapple under four to five days once you started your Interloper game. One wolf attack gets you down to 50% or so in this difficulty, so facing literally eight of them in a row ? How is this fun ? Getting pinned down in a house for three hours waiting for them to move just a little so you can escape eventually (and mind the cabin fever risk !), when you're not downright forced to freeze to death behind a rock hoping they won't come near. They are not attacted to any bait anymore but fresh guts now, there is no scaring them away by throwing lit flares and they don't give a damn about your jerking around your torch at them: they go straight for the throat.

How is The Long Dark "not a gun game" ? I clearly spend my (high difficulty) in game days shooting wolves - as long as I still have bullets or arrows to spare. God forbid I run out of them...! I perfectly know how to walk around to avoid them, but this has become way, WAY too tedious and is oftentimes downright impossible: there is no dodging them to get to Quonset Garage anymore, you either need to crawl for ten real life minutes behind trees, burnt down houses and cars, or you get there guns blazing. It used to be possible to stab them in the eye naked, but now that they nerfed that when they added the protection from clothing gameplay element, you basically put yourself in a very bad position by doing so now since they take much more condition out of you if you're naked, making it impossible to take down two wolves in a row, even if you put your clothes back for the second round. So there is no killing three wolves in a row by struggling anymore, and I sure know I did so many times before at Quonset Garage in my older Stalker games.

Anyway, I'm really sorry for the rant but wolves are just ruining my game experience now. They used to be a mild nuisance you had to (and COULD) work with, but with the game being as hard as it already is (at least in Interloper) there really needn't be thirty to fourty wolves per map respawning every fourty-eight hours AT BEST. I feel like all I'm doing is taking three steps, crouching to listen to wolves' footsteps, taking three more foots- WOOF WOOF, need to run to the nearest shelter because I have no fresh gut on me and get attacked anyway because they won't let go. Here goes my last bandage and I have nothing left to make new ones, I guess I'll just stay home and starve...
