== Overview ==
Canisters work in tandem with a [[Respirator]], are used to prevent [[Suffocation]] from toxic gases found inside mineshafts, as well as preventing [[Chemical Poisoning]] from occurring when walking around [[Chemical Hazard|chemical spills]] on the surface of the [[Zone of Contamination]].

Canisters degrade quite rapidly and only filter air for 45 seconds. This tradeoff is offset, however, by how plentiful the quantity of Canisters often are, as they can be found in many areas around the [[Langston Mine]]. Ruined Canisters are automatically replaced with a fresh one while a Respirator is being used and placed back into the player's inventory. As such, it is best to dispose of ruined Canisters in a storage container to remove them from the game world, as to not confuse the player when useful Canisters can be claimed, as well as to lower [[Encumbrance]].

Canisters occasionally spawn in other regions outside of the Zone of Contamination but are incredibly rare. They have a higher chance of being slightly more common loot items in the [[Blackrock]] region, but become virtually nonexistent when searching in all other regions.
