Here are some tips: 

#You can add a category to an image by adding <nowiki>[[Category:CATEGORYNAME]]</nowiki> in the summary/caption when [[Special:Upload|uploading]] an image.
#Check the [[W:c:Help:Help:Minor_edit|minor edit]] box '''only''' if the edit is fixing a typo, changing the formatting or otherwise doing a superficial edit. If the edit adds or removes content, or otherwise changes the meaning of the article then it's a major edit.
