I disagree.  Fir is heavier but it has a longer burn time per piece and takes the same time and calories to harvest as cedar.  The long term concern should be over your hatchet life over any inconvenience from encumbrance and what you get in return for condition loss for using it to harvest wood.  There is a finite amount of hatchets and whetstones in the game but your ability to deal with weight is infinite.  I avoid using my hatchet to harvest wood whenever possible but if I have a choice between cedar and fir, it is fir every time.
