On Stalker difficulty or higher, I perfer to only eat 500-800 calories a day. Because your condition loss from starving is about 1% an hour, you can live like this for a VERY long time, using very little food.(about 1 meat/fish a day)

Before your cooking skill reaches 5, meat from wolves and bears has a chance to give you parasites. The first piece of cooked meat will give you 1%, the next 4%, 16%, ect. Withis this, however, you can eat that formerly *dangerous might-contain-parasites meat* with a measly 1% chance of parasites. (NOTE: you can still get parasites, so try not to just live off of wolf/bear meat for extended periods of time.)
