*Sigh* I was unaware that Bears slept in the the game. I had never seen it before, I found a bear lying on the ground and I thought it was dead. The possibility of getting a bear hide was too good to pass up, so I crept forward. When I got close enough to touch it suddenly it got up again. I was unaware that bears slept in the game. I ran a bit and got a shot from the revolver in, but then got mauled. I was at about 95% condition at the time, and I had plenty of supplies, so I was more annoyed then anything else.

Unfortunately my character got up very, very, slowly. So slowly that I still didn't have control by the time the bear turned around and roared at me a second time. By the time I could finally move again he was already charging. I couldn't even try getting a shot off again because my revolver was lying on the ground several feet away from me. There was simply nothing I could do. This time I died.

That's how I learned that bears in the game fall asleep sometimes. Something that I'm sure Hinterland put in the game with the intention of creating a few confused deaths. Nothing else in the game sleeps, every other body you see lying in the snow is lying there because it's dead. But not the one animal that is impossible to fight or avoid if you get close. Thanks guys.
