The revolver will not scare bears off. They react the same way they would to the rifle. However, that does mean that if you shoot them from outside their detection range, they will run away from you. And, yes, they will bleed out eventually. It takes quite a while, so I'd go do something else for the rest of the day and come back in the morning to look for the carcass.

I'm pretty sure the revolver can get critical hits, but has a very low chance compared to the rifle. I'm not 100% sure about that. I've yet to one-shot a bear, but I've definitely taken wolves and deer down in one hit, even though they can usually survive a shot or two.

I wouldn't count on getting a crit to hunt a bear or stop one from charging, though. I've dumped well over a dozen rounds into a bear without taking it down. Just shoot it once from far away and wait for time to do the rest.

I know this is a super old thread, but in case this advice is still useful to someone: don't cook your meat immediately. Only cook it before you're ready to actually eat it. When you cook raw meat it adds +50% to the condition, even if the meat is at 0%! And 50% still qualifies as edible, my friends.

Also, if eating half rotten meat makes you uncomfortable, you can store meat outside to preserve it somewhat. That applies whether you drop it in the snow, or even if you stick it inside an outdoor container. For example, in Broken Railroad, I oftern store my meat in the lockers outside the maintenance shed or in the trunk of the car outside the hunting lodge.

That tip about coffee really is the best advice if you're struggling. I had decent luck finding coffee and barely ever needed to sleep. Once you're good and tweaked out, you can afford to be a little more liberal with the sprint button, too.

You can usually find tins of coffee within kitchens cabinets and sometimes in filing cabinets. I actually found quite a lot filed away in Carter Dam. You can sometimes strike caffeinated gold in the cargo containers on Timberwolf MT. Make sure you saw open any along your route.

Gotta disagree with the article about the revolver's usefulness as a hunting tool. The sights don't have the slight zoom the rifle does, but once you get a feel for them, you can bullseye things pretty far off. Practice on some cans if you're having trouble. Once you've got it, you can easily hit a bear from outside its detection range. Sure, it takes an age to bleed out, but that's just means you do something else for the rest of the day. Come back tomorrow and you're laughing over bear steaks.

Bait wolves for easy headshots. Deer take a bit of practice, but if you can sneak up and pop them in the head, the revolver does the business.

I will admit, it's not good for moose, though. It doesn't have the damage or the crit chance of the rifle. I've dumped over two dozen rounds into a moose and still didn't drop it.

All in all, I much prefer the revolver to the rifle for all non-moose related circumstances. It's light enough to just carry with you all the time and bullets for it are everywhere.

You can find them during the day and the night. They can be very hard to see at night in inclement weather, so watch out! Also, while they can be encountered randomly, they're scripted to appear during certain events in WM Episode 3.

Any time you're carrying a survivor, you ''will'' be attacked periodically by wolves. Be ready to put them down and whip out your weapon of choice. They also come after you during a blizzard you have to navigate. So that's fun.

If possible, try to avoid shooting at them if you've seen signs of a bear in the area or you might get a nasty surprise. The game doesn't change any other wildlife when the wolves spawn. And, as near as I can tell, the wolves don't seem to care about other wildlife. I haven't done extensive testing on that, though.

The best strategy to deal with them is to use the terrain to your advantage. Their pathfinding kind of sucks, so it's easy to confuse them by jiggering yourself up onto a fence or boulder, or by wedging yourself in a tight corner. They can also have trouble getting to you on steep slopes sometimes. Even if there's nothing nearby to screw up their pathfinding, it's still a good idea to put your back to the nearest wall so they can only come at you from one direction.

Other than that, stay calm and make sure you fire once each time a wolf comes close. You almost certainly won't have time between attacks to reload safely, so don't fire wildly. They'll usually back off whether you hit them or not, but a hit lowers the pack morale way more than a miss.

They can't be baited with meat, but if you're carrying a survivor, they will go for them if you drop them in their path. In fact, there are no normal wolves for the vast majority of the episode, so I wouldn't bother making bait, if that's part of your usual sandbox mode routine.

If you hide in a car, they will wait for you indefinitely, so don't do that.

Seems like a custom difficulty; maybe Stalker with items and auroras turned up. There are lots of supplies available, but needs deplete quickly and there's a ton of highly aggressive wildlife, even when the aurora isn't happening.
